Birthplace: Elliott, Iowa Resided In: Griswold, Iowa formerly Red Oak Cleo H. Petty, age 93, of Griswold, Iowa formerly of Red Oak, Iowa passed away, Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at the Griswold Care Center. Cleo Hope Petty was born January 1, 1914 in Elliott, Iowa the daughter of George and Crissie (Moore) DeWitt. She was raised in Elliott graduating from Elliott High School in 1931. She was united in marriage to Harold Petty on July 8, 1933 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived all of their married life in southwest, Iowa. Over the years they farmed in Cass, Mills and Montgomery Counties. They lived near Grant, Iowa, where Cleo worked at the grocery store and later owned and operated the Coffee Cup Café. They moved to Villisca, Iowa in 1964 where Cleo worked at the grocery store. Harold preceded her in death in 1987. Cleo moved to Red Oak in 1989, where she lived for many years before moving to the Allen House in Atlantic, Iowa. The past six years she has been a resident of the Griswold Care Center. Cleo was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, J.U.G. Club, and Thimble Club. She loved playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading, camping, and spending time with her family, especially the grandkids. Preceding her in death was her parents; husband: Harold Petty in 1987; and a brother: Dale DeWitt. Survivors include her children: Dolores Schrier and husband Dale of Hill City, SD; George Petty and wife Diana of Elliott, IA; and Duane Petty and wife Diane of Atlantic, IA; 12 grandchildren: Howard Schrier and wife Sharon of Rapid City, SD; Dwight Schrier and wife Holli of Hill City, SD; David Schrier and wife Corkey of Aurora, MO; Ranae Wolfe of Hill City, SD; Dennis Schrier and wife Krista of Hill City, SD; Lisa Bailey of Coburg, IA; Bill Petty of Red Oak, IA; Jodi Petty of Elliott, IA; Sarah Culver and husband Wade of Red Oak, Iowa; Dent Petty and wife Cindy of Atlantic, IA; Darrin Petty and wife Melanie of Atlantic, IA; and Dustin Petty and wife Kylie of Waukee, IA; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister: Doris Sandquist of Shenandoah, IA; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, November 23, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary DeGeest officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Thursday, November 22, 2007 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
