Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Clarence A. Johnson, age 91, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Saturday, March 8, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak. Clarence Albert Johnson was born October 19, 1911, in Grant Township of Montgomery County, Iowa, the son of Adolph and Hannah (Burke) Johnson. Clarence graduated from Red Oak High School and began farming near Stanton. On June 6, 1936, Clarence married Mae Honeyman. Clarence and Mae resided on the same farm until retiring in 1983 and moving to Red Oak. Mae preceded Clarence in death on March 2, 1991. Clarence was united in marriage to Frances Tucker on October 13, 1993. Clarence was a conservationist and a committed steward of the land. He served as a director of the REC and was a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau. Clarence and Mae were active members of Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman until they joined Bethlehem Lutheran Church after moving to Red Oak. Clarence spent many hours fishing near home and at Lake Okoboji. He raised tasty vegetables in his garden and took great pride in Mae's flower gardens. He never lacked for a joke to tell and enjoyed traveling whether in person or vicariously with a book in his easy chair. Clarence was preceded in death by Mae, his wife of 55 years; his parents and his sister Dorothy Johnson Turner. He is survived by his second wife, Frances Tucker Johnson of Stanton, Iowa; son, Carroll Johnson and his wife Sue of Grand Junction, Colorado; daughter, Lorraine Vollstedt and husband Karl of Stillwater, Minnesota; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at 10:30 AM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Red Oak with Rev. John Rinde officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be a visitation with the family one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Memorials are suggested to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers.
