Birthplace: Yuma, Colorado Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Charlotte Carlson, age 73, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Thursday, April 1, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after an extended illness. Charlotte Ruth Carlson was born February 15, 1931 in Yuma, Colorado the daughter of Floyd Milo and Osa Mae (Hathaway) Church. The family moved to Iowa when Charlotte was 13 years old. They lived in the Blockton and Shenandoah area. As a young lady she worked at various places in Shenandoah including the Woolworth Store and Jay Drug Store. Charlotte was united in marriage to Leland Carlson on February 27, 1955 in Shenandoah, Iowa. After their marriage they made their home in the Red Oak community and Charlotte worked for Earl May. She also cooked for many years at such restaurants as the Holiday Inn, Chances R, and Dominiques. She also worked for the Places Store until it's closing. She then went to work at CDS where she retired in 1994. Charlotte was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church, Church Circle, and was a former Girl Scout Leader. Preceding her in death were her parents; infant sister: Neva Carlene Church; sister-in-law: Jean Carlson; brothers-in-law: Carroll Carlson; George Swenson; and Robert Elliott; and a niece: Sheryl. Survivors include her husband: Leland Carlson of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Carla Kirchert and husband Les of Essex, Iowa; son: Curtis Carlson and wife Liz of Stanton, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Holly James and Troy of Omaha, Nebraska; Stacy Kirchert of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Brian Kirchert and wife Laura of Essex, Iowa; and Corey Carlson of Stanton, Iowa; 2 great grandchildren: Brayden and Eric; sister: Mildred Elliott of Shenandoah, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, April 5, 2004 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church with Rev. Suzanne Hewett and Rev. John Rinde officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, April 4, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Charlotte's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
