Cathryn Ann Meyer of Coralville Iowa died on May 8, 2023 at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics after a short illness.
Cathryn Ann Murphy was born in Red Oak, Iowa on October 10, 1937 to William and Maxine (Davis) Murphy. She grew up in Red Oak, graduating from Red Oak High School in 1955.
Cathryn Ann had five daughters making, her first job a caring, loving and nurturing mother. She also worked outside of the home in administrative positions in the financial services, automotive and real estate industries.
Ann married Larry Meyer on 11/23/1984 in Red Oak. They lived in Des Moines until 1990 when they moved to Iowa City, where she was involved in activities with the University Women's Club and the First Christian Church. Ann and Larry took several trips which included Hawaii, California, Arizona, Florida and South Dakota. Her favorite was the Black Hills area of South Dakota. Ann was an avid reader and had more books than her Kindle would store. She enjoyed crafting, playing cards, and games. She taught many of her grandchildren a card game, Spite and Malice, and would play with them for hours when they visited. Her most enjoyable times were the annual fishing trips to Minnesota. Their last trip was in 2018 when Ann caught a large Northern, which was the largest fish they had caught on their many trips. In December of 2021 Ann and Larry moved to Grand Living in Coralville where she lived out her life making new friends, playing Bingo, and participating in the many social events offered. One of Ann's favorite things was eating ice cream and was known as "two scoops" to many of the residents of Grand Living.
Ann was a pet lover, being around dogs her entire life. She spent a lot of her time with her pets especially the last two; Sadie, a Pomeranian and Baby Cakes, a Yorkie.
Ann is survived by four daughters; Lori Gaudineer, Hampton, Iowa, Susan Murphy (Guy), Clinton, Iowa, Jennifer Bristow, Des Moines, Iowa and Mary Jo Pina (Tom), Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She also inherited a daughter and son from her husband Larry; Tina Morris (Mike) of Des Moines and Michel Meyer (Lisa) of Chicago. She is also survived by two brothers, three sister-in-law's and several nieces and nephews. Ann has 18 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Lastly, her dog Baby Cakes is missing her terribly. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Lynn Cook, brother William Patrick Murphy, and dog Sadie.
A Graveside memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 10 AM – 11 AM Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa.
