Birthplace: Elliott, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Carl O. Johnson, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Thursday, December 16, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Carl Oliver Johnson was born December 1, 1914 in Elliott, Iowa the son of Phillip "Ray" and Elsie (Braden) Johnson. After attending school in Elliott, Iowa Carl started farming on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Alice Peters on April 5, 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska. Alice preceded Carl in death in 1941. Carl entered the United States Army during WWII and served with the 110th Engineer Combat Battalion. Upon his return from the war, he started Johnson Brothers Construction with his brother Dan. Carl was united in marriage to LaVerne Nelson on July 12, 1947 in Red Oak, Iowa. They were lifelong residents of the Red Oak area. Carl retired from the construction business in 1981. Carl and LaVerne then traveled extensively through the United States and Canada with their camper and friends. Carl was a member of the Red Oak Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his infant sister: Marjorie; his parents; brother: Dan Johnson on July 30, 1994; and wife: LaVerne on September 15, 1998. Survivors include his son: Richard Johnson and wife Jeanne of Ankeny, Iowa; 2 granddaughters: Tish Boothe of Ankeny, Iowa; and Tawnya Neighbour and husband Jeff of Ankeny, Iowa; 3 great grandchildren: Taylar, Jaelyn, and Brynlee; 2 brothers: Milo Johnson of San Jon, New Mexico; and Win Johnson and wife Terri of Virginia Beach, Virginia; 2 sisters: Belle Bowen of Red Oak, Iowa; and Josephine Parker of Commerce, Texas; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, December 20, 2004 at the Red Oak Presbyterian Church with Rev. Suzanne Hewett officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, December 19, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church or the Stanton Care Center. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
