Birthplace: Oakland, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Bud Core, age 75, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, February 22, 2004 at his home in Red Oak. Bud Core was born March 11, 1928 in Oakland, Iowa the son of Irvin and Marie (Young) Core. He was raised in the Oakland and Carson areas attending school in Carson, Iowa. After school Bud served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Bud came back to southwest Iowa where he farmed until moving into Red Oak. He was united in marriage to Bettie Hinkle on June 24, 1964 in Vermillion, South Dakota. They operated Core's Boarding House from 1967-1993. Bettie preceded Bud in death on March 7, 1993. Also preceding him in death were his parents; daughter: Patricia Abbott in 1969; sister: Corrine Laire; 2 brothers-in-law: Loring Laire; and Mike Roenfeld. Survivors include his daughter: Betty "Bugs" Wells of Tabor, Iowa; son: Dallas Wells, Jr. of Omaha, Nebraska; 3 grandchildren: Danine Miller and her husband Mardy of Harlan, Iowa; Rick Goodwin and his wife Claudia of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and Anna Hardy of Red Oak, Iowa; 9 great grandchildren: Matt, Kaila, and Jessica Miller; Laura, Christian, and Beau Goodwin; and Kelsey, Kady, and Kylee Hardy; 1 great great grandson: Jason; sister: Carolyn Roenfeld of Malvern, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday, February 26, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Rescue Unit. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
