Obituary

Birthplace: Griswold, Iowa Resided In: Nape, California Boyd Edwin Reichstein, Sr., age 79, passed away December 11, 2004 in Fairfield, California. Boyd was born March 9, 1925 in Griswold, IA the son of Lonnie & Lura (Houser) Reichstein. He was a 1943 graduate of Macedonia High School in Macedonia, IA, where he lettered in Baseball, Basketball and Football. He also received his Associate of Arts Degree at Napa Valley College in 1969 majoring in Industrial Management. Boyd joined the U.S. Army in 1944 as part of the 342nd Infantry. He received a Purple Heart in May of 1945 and The Oak Leaf Cluster in June of 1945, for wounds received in action in the Philippines. He received numerous other decorations for his service during World War II. After the Army, Boyd then moved to California where his Mother and family were. He worked private construction with Stanley Pearce Electric Company from 1947 to 1962. In 1962 he worked at Mare Island with Shop 51 and then transferred to Shop 07 where he remained until his retirement in 1985. Boyd enjoyed golfing with his brothers and nephews and also enjoyed dancing. He was a long time member of the American Legion unit of Macedonia, Iowa and the Napa Valley Vintage Chorus of the Society for the Preservation & Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America. Boyd is survived by his daughter, Patricia Foss of Napa, CA; a son, Ed Jr. of Bedias, TX; two sisters, Jean Jabin of Napa, Dorothy Grooms of Napa; five brothers, Frank Reichstein, Wayne Armstrong, Norman Armstrong all of Napa, Larry Armstrong of Atwater, CA and Donald Armstrong of Weimar, CA; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Nona Maclellan and a brother, Dwight Armstrong. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Marlene Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Center Ridge Cemetery. There will be military graveside honors. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
