Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Bob "Sam" Samuelson, age 81, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Bob was born October 12, 1934 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Russell Otis and Georgia Maxine (Perkins) Samuelson. He was raised in Red Oak graduating with the class of 1952. He worked for the Iowa State Patrol until 1956 when he went to work for Central Surveys in Shenandoah, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Arlene Jones on July 19, 1967 in Ralston, Nebraska. They made their home in Emerson, Iowa for many years. Bob retired after 50 plus years of employment with Central Surveys. Bob was very active in the Masonic Lodge. He held membership in Montgomery Chapter #57, R.A.M. Hiram Council #30, Royal and Select Masons, Bruce Commandery #34, Knights Templar all of Red Oak, Iowa, 32 Degrees in Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, S.J., Tangier Shrine Temple of Omaha, NE; the Botna Valley Shrine Club, the Mobile Nobles, and Order of Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Red Oak Elks Lodge #1304, Red Oak Country Club, the Fuzz That Was, and was a Colonel in the Honorable Order of the Kentucky Colonels. He loved reading and his dog "Chico". Preceding him in death were his parents; brother-in-law: Jack Wells and nephew: Russell Ray Wells. Survivors include his children: Lisa Sowers and husband Jeep of Henderson, IA; Jennifer Burke and husband Dennis of Stanton, IA; and Kim Euken of Red Oak, IA; grandchildren: Gabrielle Sowers of Stanton, IA; Katelynn Sowers of Malvern, IA; Lauren Burke of Stanton, IA; Alix Carlson and husband Tony of Red Oak, IA; and Jazmin Euken of Ankeny, IA; great grandchildren: Ella and Boyd Carlson of Red Oak, IA; brothers: Russell Samuelson and wife Winn of Red Oak, IA and Marion Samuelson of Santa Rosa, CA; sisters: Joanne Wells of Eastaboga, AL and Vicki Kosina of Mount Vernon, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at a later date in the Evergreen Cemetery. Masonic Rites will be held 6 PM Thursday, May 19, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with viewing and visitation with the family to follow until 8 PM. A memorial fund is being established in Bob's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
