Birthplace: Peoria, IL Resided In: Red Oak, IA Birge "Wayne" Geer, age 84, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Wayne was born August 21, 1932 in Peoria, Illinois the son of Birge and Mary Ida (Pierson) Geer. His early years were spent in Illinois and California before the family moved to Clarinda, Iowa where he graduated high school in the class of 1952. Wayne served in the United States Army during the Korean War and returned home in 1954 to start farming. He was united in marriage to Margaret Wagaman on September 29, 1957 in Villisca, Iowa. They farmed for many years until moving into Red Oak in 1983. Wayne worked for Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Johnson Brothers Construction, and Haley Electric. He was a longtime member of the Red Oak Lions Club, the Mercantile Coffee Club and was active at the First United Methodist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Margaret Geer on January 31, 2012; daughter: Linda Geer; sister: Laura Swift; and sister-in-law: Dorothy Wagaman. Survivors include his children: Doug Geer and Cindi Thiry of Wichita, KS; Scott Geer and wife Sue of Stanton, IA; and Lisa Conry and husband Tom of Harlan, IA; grandchildren: Dustin Thiry and wife Lindsey of Wichita, KS; Keagan Geer of Papillion, NE; Sydnee Hatjinos and husband Nick of Bellevue, NE; Mark Conry and wife Cassie of Bristol, TN; Sarah Conry and fiance Joe Hahn of Des Moines, IA; Greg Conry and wife Carly of Hinton, IA; and Courtney Conry and friend Wren Koch of Harlan, IA; great grandchildren: Dessa Thiry, Niko Hatjinos, and Jacob Conry; brother: Glenn Geer and wife Evonne of Duluth, MN; several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends including special friend: Sharon Wiese of Red Oak. Memorial services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, October 8, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors will be in the Villisca, Iowa Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5-7 PM Friday, October 7, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Lions Club. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
