Birthplace: Stennett, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa formerly Malvern area Billie Laverne White, age 86, of Glenwood, Iowa formerly Malvern and Hastings, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. Billie was born August 21, 1928 at Stennett, Iowa the son of Roswell Leonard "Jim" and Laura (Rush) White. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1946 and started farming before serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. Upon his return from service, Billie farmed at Malvern, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Joanna Garrison in 1954 at Hawthorn, Iowa and to this union five children were born: Donna Sue, Kevin Douglas, Billie Jo, Byron Scott, and Kelli Kristine. Billie farmed for 35 years near Malvern and moved into Malvern in 1992. In 1994, he moved to an acreage south of Hastings, IA where he lived until moving into Glenwood, Iowa in 2010. Currently Billie was a resident of the Red Oak Healthcare Community in Red Oak, Iowa. He was a member of the Emerson American Legion, Farm Bureau, and former Eagles member. He enjoyed dancing, fishing, trapping, playing cards, gardening, canning vegetables, horse racing, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. Billie was a very caring, funny, fun, and strong man who had an infectious smile and never knew a stranger. He will be missed by all who knew him. Preceding him in death were his parents; step-mother: Clendora (Scarf) White; brothers: Robert and Leo White; sisters: Ruth Scheel, Linda Foote, Lorraine Wendt, Maxine Norris, and Norma Schultz. Survivors include his companion of many years: Julia McGrew of Glenwood, IA; children: Donna Sue Rieken and husband Leo of Council Bluffs, IA; Kevin Douglas White and wife Brenda of Casa Grande, AZ; Billie Jo White of Henderson, IA; Byron Scott White and wife Rhonda of Henderson, Iowa; and Kelli Kristine Keiper of Grand Island, NE; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters including his twin, Bettie McCunn of Greenfield, IA; Jim White and wife Shirley of Omaha, NE; Pat Williams and husband Jack of Glenwood, IA; John White of Omaha, NE; Mary Jones and husband Robert of Red Oak, IA; Wayne White and wife Ann of Elkhorn, IA; and Charles White and wife Denise of Essex, IA; sister-in-law: Sally White of Omaha, NE; brother-in-law: Doug Foote of Red Oak, IA; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Pastor Terry McClain officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
