Birthplace: Villisca, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Betty Mae Young, age 87, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Betty was born March 13, 1933 in Villisca, Iowa, the daughter of Murl and Mabel (Olson) Rhamy. She was raised in Villisca, Iowa where she attended school. Betty was united in marriage to William F. "Spike" Young on November 4, 1950 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They lived northeast of Red Oak for a year then Elliott for a year before moving to Red Oak, Iowa. Betty and Spike operated Young Milling until 1978 when they sold out. Betty and Spike then operated Spike's Small Engine Repair retiring in 1994. Betty enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, camping, square dancing, playing cards, and wintering in Texas for many years. Her greatest joy came from her family. She was very devoted to them. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Spike Young on October 22, 2018; and brother: Dan Rhamy. Survivors include her children: Harvey Young and wife Jacqueline of Newman Grove, Nebraska; Harold Young and wife Dory of Columbus, Nebraska; Nancy Schnormeier and husband Alan of Bellevue, Nebraska; and Gloria Thompson and husband Norman of Red Oak, Iowa; nine grandchildren; many great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sister: Ann Ribb of Springfield, Missouri; sister-in-law: Shirley Baker of Clarinda, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends. A private family celebration of life service will be held 2 PM Friday, January 22, 2021 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. The service will be live streamed on the funeral home's Facebook page. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
