Betty Jean Holmes, age 84, of Griswold, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023, at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Betty was born October 14, 1938, in Omaha, Nebraska, the youngest of seven children born to G.E. and Stella (Casbrak) Chapman. She lived in Omaha, Nebraska, until moving to southwest Iowa at a young age where she attended school in Lewis. Betty lived all of her life in southwest Iowa currently in Griswold. She enjoyed gardening, her bird, Gabby, and watching her fish in the aquarium. Her greatest joy came from her kids and family.

Preceding her in death were her parents; siblings: Bill Chapman (Ruth); Raymond Chapman (Maxine); G.E. Chapman, Jr (Chris); Kenneth Chapman; Charlene Chapman; and Charles Chapman (Mary); grandchildren: infant Kaeli Jo Holmes; CJ Richards; and Kenzlee Jacobsen. Survivors include her children: Vickie Magnuson (Don) of Bellevue, NE; Robin Haas (Ron) of Griswold, IA; Pennie Dougherty of Bellevue, NE; Tina Goodspeed of Bellevue, NE; Russell Boseck of Griswold, IA; Michelle Bartlett (Jeremy) of Shenandoah, IA; Kelly Holmes (Julie) of Atlantic, IA; Rick Holmes (Suzanne) of Griswold, IA; and Dawn Wilson (Amos) of Pantego, NC; 43 grandchildren; 52 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the Elliott Community Building in Elliott, Iowa. Please join the family for a time of lunch and fellowship starting at 11 AM.
