Birthplace: Rural Stanton, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Betty I. Geer, age 75, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Betty Irene Geer was born March 17, 1936 on a farm near Stanton, Iowa the daughter of Willard and Laura Nell (Murphy) Blessing. She grew up in Page County, Iowa graduating from College Springs High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to James Geer in June of 1954. They farmed for 8 years before moving to Clarinda. They also lived in Stanton before moving to Red Oak where Betty worked for the Police Department in radio communications and later the 911 dispatch center for Montgomery County Sheriff's Department retiring after 26 years in 1998. Betty and Jim enjoyed camping and traveling, visiting friends and family. They especially enjoyed spending time in Arizona in the winter. She loved cooking, spending time with the grandkids, her dogs, and watching the "eagles" on the internet. Preceding her in death were her parents and a grandson: Adam Smith. Survivors include her husband: James Geer of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Carolyn Smith and husband Wesley of Sioux City, Iowa; Sharon Jansen and husband Richard of Loveland, Colorado; Jeannie Bruning and husband Terry of Villisca, Iowa; and Laurie Draper of Burlington, Iowa; grandchildren: Steven and Matthew Smith of Sioux City, Iowa; Michelle Grinnell and husband Cory of Loveland, Colorado; Jim Jansen and wife Joanna of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; John Jansen and wife Tatyana of Colorado Springs, Colorado; William Bruning of Clarinda, Iowa; Brandon Bruning of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Thad Bruning of Villisca, Iowa; Aubrey Draper of Kansas City, Missouri; and Autumn Draper of Burlington, Iowa; great grandchildren: Devin, Derek, and Lilly Grinnell; and Jake Jansen; sisters: Beverly Hunter and husband Donald of Charter Oak, Iowa and Geraldine Jamison and husband Dale of Decatur, Texas; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Friday, February 10, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
