Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Council Bluffs, Iowa Betty J. Damewood, age 79, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital. Betty Jean Damewood was born May 31, 1929 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Carl and Bessie (Goodman) Weseen. She was raised in southwest, Iowa and the family moved to Council Bluffs in the 1940's. Betty was united in marriage to Maurice Ray Damewood in 1948 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Over the years Betty worked at a thrift store in Omaha and at the Goodwill Store in Council Bluffs. She loved cats, horses, country music, coffee, and riding the bus around the city. But most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents; her sister: Berniece Nease and her husband Walt; sister: Dorothy Branan and her husband Carroll; and brother-in-law: Pete Ganley. Survivors include her sons: Dennis Damewood and wife Julie of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Danny Damewood of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren: Dana Damewood of Omaha, Nebraska; Yori Benish and husband Steve of Omaha, Nebraska; Charis "Lynn" Farrell and husband Tim of McClelland, Iowa; Debra Miller of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Adam Damewood of Omaha, Nebraska; great grandchildren: Owen Benish, Gaven Farrell, and Ivy Farrell; sisters: Shirley Altstadt and husband Duane of Red Oak, Iowa; Charlene White and husband Gail of Glenwood, Iowa; and Geraldine Ganley of New Market, Iowa; brother: Jack Weseen and wife June of Council Bluffs, Iowa; many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, July 28, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery near Villisca, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Betty's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
