Birthplace: Pierson, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Bernice Starr, age 88, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Sunday, September 1, 2002 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Bernice Irene Starr was born July 2, 1914 in Pierson, Iowa the daughter of Roy and Willye (Hearn) Messerole. She was raised in Pierson and graduated from the Pierson High School in 1932. Bernice was united in marriage to Orville Starr on March 13, 1933 in Sioux City, Iowa. They lived in the Malvern and Hastings area until moving to Red Oak in the 1960's. They owned and operated the Oakleaf Hatchery for many years. Orville preceded Bernice in death on September 27, 1977. Bernice was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star at Malvern and the Red Oak Country Club in Red Oak. Survivors include her 2 sons: Roger Starr and his wife Peggy of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Scott Starr of Papillion, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren: Kerry Weber and her husband Dan of Newark, Delaware; Raenelle de Regnier and her husband Dr. Kevin of Winterset, Iowa; Curtis Starr of Mineola, IA; Jay Messerole and his wife Tammy of Chandler, Arizona; and Michael Messerole and his wife (Heidi) of Coronado, California; 7 great grandchildren: Christopher; Andrea; Melanie; Scott; Meredith; Kendall; and McKenna; niece: Molly Wyman of Omaha, Nebraska; brother: Max Messerole of Red Oak, Iowa; sister: Bee Messerole of South Sioux City, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Friday, September 6, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Malvern Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Thursday, September 5, 2002 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
