Birthplace: Rural Elliott, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Bernard Leo Bills, age 85, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Bernard was born July 20, 1929 near Elliott, Iowa the son of Dallas and Golda (Core) Bills. He attended school at the Buss School and then Stanton. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and then came back to the Stennett area where he was Janitor at the school. He was united in marriage to Lois Jean Dukeshier in 1953 in Emerson, IA. Three children were born to this union: Tracy, Brian, and Mark. He later was united in marriage to Carol Hudson LaMar in 1964 in Red Oak, Iowa. He farmed and then worked for JD Oil Company for 20 years before starting with the City of Red Oak retiring after 27 years. Bernard enjoyed hunting fishing, and spending time on his pontoon boat. He was a long time member of the Red Oak Eagles Lodge and the Montgomery County Memorial Court of Honor. Preceding him in death were his parents; son: Mark Bills; and sister: Lois Funkhouser. Survivors include his sons: Tracy Bills and wife Linda of Jefferson, IA and Brian Bills of Red Oak, IA; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister: Doris Johnson of Red Oak, IA; brothers: Gordon Bills and wife Barbara of Creston, IA and Marlin Bills and wife Dorothy of Tulsa, OK; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
