Obituary

Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Ben Paul "Whip" Whipple, age 75, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away January 7, 2021, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa after an extended illness. Ben was born December 22, 1945 in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of Robert and Rosie (Dumler) Whipple. Ben graduated from Red Oak Community High School in 1964 and enlisted in the U.S. Marines and spent a tour of duty in Viet Nam, on the DMZ, as a "tunnel rat". He was awarded a bronze star. Upon returning home, he entered Northwest Missouri State University and earned a B.A. in Industrial Arts. Ben`s student teaching was under the tutelage of Mr. Torrence at ROCHS which earned him a teaching certificate. Uniroyal, now Parker Hannifin, came to Red Oak and Ben became a manager for the startup of the new facility. Through the ensuing years, he held positions with UPS, Anderson Beverage Company, and retired from the City of Red Oak Parks Department, rising to the position of Parks Superintendent. Ben was an avid hunter and catfish fisherman. He enjoyed his outdoor time with his faithful companions, his dogs. His signature hand crafted "bluebird" houses are still seen around the Red Oak area. Ben`s outgoing personality, smile, and laugh always made him a joy to be around. He will be missed by many! R.I.P. Ben A graveside celebration of life service will be held 10 AM Thursday, January 21, 2021 at the Evergreen Cemetery with military honors. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
