Birthplace: Marshalltown, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Barbara Unger, age 83, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. Barbara Unger was born March 12, 1924 in Marshalltown, Iowa the daughter of Clifford and Ruby (Hayzlett) Unger. At a very young age the family moved to Red Oak, Iowa. Barbara graduated from Red Oak High School in 1942 and attended the University of Iowa where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She later received her Masters of Arts Degree. Barbara was employed for a short time in Des Moines, Iowa and eventually moved back to Red Oak where she worked for the Wilson Concrete Company. Barbara later was a caregiver to her mother and father. Over the years Barbara had been active in the Historical Society, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Meals on Wheels program. Preceding her in death were her parents and sister: Mary M. Stevens. Survivors include her brother: Richard Unger and wife Marilyn of Sun City, Arizona; nine nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held 2 PM Sunday, May 6, 2007 at the First Congregational Church with Rev. Elizabeth Dilley officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later time. Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church or the charity of the donor's choice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
