Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Emerson, Iowa Barbara R. Douglas, age 80, of Emerson, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 5, 2018 at the Glen Haven Home in Glenwood, Iowa. Barbara was born June 9, 1937 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Ivan and Floy (Beachler) Durbin. She was raised near Emerson, Iowa and graduated from the Emerson High School in 1955. She worked at the bank in Emerson and then was united in marriage to Bill Douglas on June 3, 1956 in Emerson, Iowa. Barbara was a homemaker who raised her family, worked part time at the bank, and even found time to start a wall papering business at one time. She was a longtime member of the Emerson Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Barbara was also a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star and Rainbow. Her hobbies included sewing, embroidery, crocheting, gardening, playing the piano, painting, cross word puzzles, and sudoku puzzles. Preceding her in death were her parents. Survivors include her husband: Bill Douglas of Emerson, IA; children: Cathleen Bruce and husband Matt of Morrison, CO; Christopher Douglas and wife Lynda of Euless, TX; William Douglas II and wife Gena of Bedford, TX; and Bob Douglas and wife Ellen of Elkhorn, NE; grandchildren: Jessica Floy Ripplinger and husband Andrew of Littleton, CO and Sara Gale Bruce of Lakewood, CO; great grandchildren: Aubrey Mae, Renae Christine, and Madison Kate Ripplinger; sister: Christine Durbin of Independence, MO; sister-in-law: Joan Moore of Cathedral City, CA; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Emerson Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Emerson Cemetery. Easter Star services will be held 5 PM Friday, January 12, 2018 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak with visitation with family to follow until 7 PM. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
