Birthplace: Page County, Iowa Resided In: Stanton, Iowa Arthur "Art" Jacobson, age 83, of Stanton, Iowa passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Arthur Carl Edward Jacobson was born October 23, 1920 in Page County, Iowa the son of Andrew and Anna (Carlson) Jacobson. He was raised on the Century Family Farm and attended country school in Page County and high school in Red Oak. Art was united in marriage to Marcella Hill on September 16, 1944 at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa. Over the years Art worked at the Stanton REC, Davis-Mannasmith-Herbold Veterinarians, was a regional manager for McCurdy Seed Company, as well as farming all of his life. Marcella and Art lived on the family farm not far from where Art was born. He was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday School for 25 years and served on the Church Board. Art was also a former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Art loved God and was a devoted husband and family man. Art and Marcella danced every Saturday night to the music of Guy Lombardo in their living room and did so for the past 59 years. He loved to tell stories and was proud of his Swedish Heritage. Art often told these stories in his fluent Swedish style. Art never knew a stranger and would often give family and friends rings and bow ties that were crafted from dollar bills. He was known for his firm hand shake and often enjoyed pulling a finger or two to show his strength. He was always up for the challenge. Proceding him in death were his parents; his sister: Alice Jacobson on March 5, 1998; and a great grandson: Connor. Survivors include his wife: Marcella Jacobson of Stanton, Iowa; son: Gary Jacobson and his wife Madonna of Griswold, Iowa; 3 daughters: Ann Johnson and her husband Dick of Red Oak, Iowa; Becky Bruning and her husband Steve of Stanton, Iowa; and Sandy Wilson and her husband Dave of Stanton, Iowa;one daughter-in-law: Rosemary Jacobson of Stanton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren: Todd Jacobson and his wife Paula of Shenandoah, Iowa; Kristen Jacobson and her fiancé Antonio Thoms of Omaha, Nebraska; Missy Jacobson and friend Matt Weichman of Corning, Iowa; Danee Redd and friend Rick Heidleberger of Omaha, Nebraska; Heather Huddle and husband Josh of Stanton, Iowa; Brandi Blackman and husband Bret of Glenwood, Iowa; Lindsay Paulsen and husband Craig of Mitchell, South Dakota; Troy Bruning and wife Rebecca of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Jodi Bruning of Ames, Iowa and friend Cody Allen of Ames, Iowa; Drew Wilson of Maryville, Missouri; and Brett Wilson of Stanton, Iowa; 2 step-grandchildren: Creighton Nelson and wife Sarah of Griswold, Iowa; and Eve Kwiatkowski of Griswold, Iowa; 4 great grandchildren: Evan, Isaac, Haylie, and Britney; and many other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 AM Monday, November 17, 2003 at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton with the Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial will be in the Mamre Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, November 16, 2003 at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers to the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, the Stanton Rescue Unit, or the Swedish Heritage and Cultural Center. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak is in charge of arrangements.
