Birthplace: Essex, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Amy Halbert, age 96, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Thursday, December 22, 2005 at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness. Amy Christina Halbert was born November 3, 1909 in Essex, Iowa the daughter of Carl Fredrick "Fred" and Alida "Cecilia" (Johnson) Lonn. Amy attended school in Coburg and has been a resident of southwest Iowa all of her life. She was united in marriage to Neil Morgan Halbert on August 28, 1929 in Omaha, Nebraska. They moved into Red Oak after Neil became ill. He preceded her in death in 1939. Amy worked for the Thomas D. Murphy Company for many years retiring in 1974. After "retirement" Amy worked at the Holiday Inn and did some cleaning. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 15-20 year club at Murphy's, Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the Monday Club. She volunteered at the Good Samaritan Care Center, the Vista Gardens Care Center, the American Red Cross, as well as, delivering Meals on Wheels. She also loved doing Bingo at Acorn Acres. Amy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother: Hugo Lonn; two sisters: Anna Viola Lonn; and Signa Erickson; grandson Brian Halbert; and two brother's-in-law: Walter Black and Vance Erickson. Survivors include her two sons: Marlin Halbert and wife Lila of Apple Valley, Minnesota; and Bernard Halbert and wife Madelyn of Livingston, Texas; 13 grandchildren: Debbie, Donna, Terry, Jeffrey, Timothy, Kevin, Trina, Eileen, Doreen, Neil, Lory, Amy, and Chad; many many great and great great grandchildren; sister: Ruby Black of Red Oak, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be open visitation starting on Monday morning, December 26, 2005 with the family being present from 7-8 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
