Alice Eileen Brown, age 80, of Henderson, Iowa, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Alice was born August 30, 1941, in rural Henerson, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Eunice (Isaacson) Rieken. She grew up in Henderson, Iowa, graduated from Henderson High School in 1960. While in high school, she started working for a veterinarian. Alice was united in marriage to Glenn D. "Bud" Brown on November 25, 1961 in Henderson, Iowa. They lived all of their lives in Henderson. Over the years, Alice worked for Harbor's Grocery, the Henderson Locker, Henderson State Bank and Trust, and Emerson Farm Supply before retiring and taking care of her grandkids. She was a longtime member of the Henderson United Methodist Church, volunteered at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home, and worked with hospice through Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs. Alice's hobbies include collecting bells, growing roses, and cooking. She was an excellent cook. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Bud Brown and her beloved dog Missy. Survivors include her children: Steve Brown and wife Susan of Henderson, IA and Tamara "Tami" Bass and Gary Mendlik of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren: Bradley Bass and wife Amanda of Bellevue, NE and Kayla Everett and husband Tyler of Tallahassee, FL; great grandchildren: Brynlee and Lincoln Everett; sisters: Karen Rieken Jones of Council Bluffs, IA and Bette Rieken Byers and husband Terry of Henderson, IA; brother: Leo Rieken and wife Donna of Council Bluffs, IA; brothers-in-law: Monty Brown and wife Vickie of Huxley, IA and David Brown and wife Tammy of Oskaloosa, IA; sister-in-law: Cora Hughes and husband Bob of Emerson, IA; and many other relatives and friends including her faithful companion, "Winston" the dog. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, February 18, 2022, at the Henderson United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Farm Creek Cemetery at Henderson. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Thursday, February 17, 2022, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
