Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Albert Maurice Selser, age 86, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society. Albert was born April 11, 1928 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Harry and Anglesey (Owens) Selser. He was raised in the Red Oak and Wales area graduating from Wales Lincoln High School in 1945. He was united in marriage to Joan LeRette on September 11, 1949 in Red Oak. They farmed near Wales until moving to the Red Oak area in 1959. Albert and Joan retired in 1987 and moved to Red Oak. Their farm is still in their family today. Albert kept active by getting a job at the Red Oak Country Club where he worked for over 20 years. He was a long time Fair Board Member, Eagles Member, Merc Coffee Club Member, Farm Bureau Member, and was a former Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star member. His hobbies included woodworking with a scroll saw, wood burning, and wood carving. Joan and Albert loved camping and spent many winters in Arizona and Texas over the past 40 years. Albert had a great sense of humor always with a gentle smile and an easy laugh. He savored his diet pepsi, popcorn, and chocolate ice cream. Albert loved his family and was loved not only by his family but all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother: Owen Selser; sisters: Mildred Andrews and Evelyn DeBolt; brothers-in-law: Wilbur Andrews and Lester DeBolt; and granddaughter: Shelly Ann Breedlove. Survivors include his wife: Joan Selser of Red Oak; daughters: Joanie Zychowski and husband Ron of Holiday, FL; Judy Coco and husband Bob of Bellevue, NE; Susan Veon and husband Larry of Stanton, IA; and Mary Gohlinghorst and husband Don of Red Oak; grandchildren: Angela Larsen, Gary Porter (friend: Scarlett Lidgett), Mark Porter (Anna), Stacey Breedlove-Gunter (friend: Dan Dougherty), Sheryl Adamson (Jason), Stefanie Breedlove, Chris Veon (Melanie), Matt Veon (Stephanie), Kevin Veon (Amy), Jennifer Veon (fiance: Ben Ingersoll), Daniel Gohlinghorst (Danette), Marjorie Gohlinghorst (friend: James Day), and Katelin Johnson (Aaron); 22 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 5 step great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Janice Palmer of Hayworth, IL; Joyce Spangenberg and husband Ed of Red Oak; and Judy Boeger and husband Ed of Mesa, AZ; brother-in-law: Richard LeRette and wife Marcia of Red Oak, IA; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends and his faithful companion: Penny. Funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, June 20, 2014 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
