Alan Darwin Ruhl, age 72, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2014 at his residence after an extended illness. Alan was born July 23, 1942 in Grant, Iowa. He was the son of Jack and Nadine (Westerlund) Ruhl. Alan was a graduate of Griswold, Iowa High School and served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He was united in marriage to Jan Mattheis on November 7, 1970 in Omaha, Nebraska. Alan was a long distance truck driver starting his career with Kinnison Truck Lines. He also worked for Armour Meats and spent many years trucking for Keim, Inc. out of Sabetha, Kansas. After retirement, Alan started trucking for Calvin Brown out of Red Oak. He was known for being an avid Nebraska Cornhusker Fan. Go Big Red!!!!
Preceding him in death were his parents and step-son: Richard McAdams. Survivors include his wife: Jan Ruhl of Red Oak, IA; children: David Ruhl of Council Bluffs, IA; Angela Kisner and husband Joshua of Shenandoah, IA; Kevin Ruhl and wife Allison of Minot, ND; and Pamela Hampton and husband Rob of Council Bluffs, IA; grandchildren: Brandon , Noah, and Abigail Kisner of Shenandoah, IA; Kaitlyn, Anderson, Kendall, and Alex Ruhl of Minot, ND; and Annalise Hampton of Council Bluffs, IA; step-daughter: Cindy Dean and partner Steve Riska of Knob Noster, MO; step-grandchildren: Jeremy Dean and wife Sandy of Lee's Summit, MO; Sarah Rudzik and husband Jake of Grandview, MO; Bobbie Dean and Partner Nate Cockrum of Warrensburg, MO; Jonetta Dean of Knob Noster, MO; and Derrick McAdams and partner Nelle Theisen of Philadelphia, PA; step-great grandchildren: Jessica, Cameron, Terri, Keira, Alex, and Trenton; step-daughter-in-law: Lisa Magneson of Red Oak, IA; brothers: Lyle Ruhl of Anita, IA and Gary Ruhl and wife Zoe of Griswold, IA; sister: Nancy Phillips of Grant, IA; brothers-in-law: Larry Mattheis and wife Judy of N. Branch, MN and Michael Mattheis and wife Brenda of Hartley, IA; sisters-in-law: Carol Mathews of Collierville, TN, Pat Johnson of Omaha, NE, and Teresa Borger and husband Todd of Prairie Village, KS; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4-6 PM Monday, October 27, 2014 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Military Honors will be presented at 6 PM. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Public Library or the Red Oak Optimist Club Fireworks fund for the 4th of July.
Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
