Birthplace: Montgomery County, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Ada R. Withrow, age 95, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center after an extended illness. Ada Ruth Withrow was born August 14, 1913 in Montgomery County, Iowa the daughter of Frank Campbell and Carrie Edna (Jenks) Withrow. She graduated from the Coburg High School in 1931 and was a lifelong member of the Climax United Methodist Church. She was very involved with the church and served in many capacities over the years including pianist, board member, and a member of UMW. When the church closed it was the death of a loved one to Ada. Ada lived a sedate and sheltered life. After she graduated from high school there was not enough money during the great depression for her to continue her schooling. She did take more piano lessons and taught beginner piano for several years. When World War II started her dad needed help with the farming so he bought a tractor and Ada took over the tractor duties. After her dad died, Ada kept the livestock and did all the necessary work relating to raising hogs and cattle. After the death of both of her parents she had a three generation sale and moved to an apartment in Red Oak. Then as her eye sight failed, she moved to Arlington Place and then to Red Oak Rehab and Care Center. Ada was know over the years as a master of the extinct art of tatting and was also a wonderful piano player. She played for many years for the Montgomery County Women's Chorus and for Coburg Schools where many graduates enjoyed "Pomp and Circumstance". Ada is survived by many cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Dr. Al Moore officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. There will be open visitation at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
