Birthplace: Montgomery County, IA Resided In: Stanton, IA formerly Grant, IA Alice Marie Thompson Barr, age 91, of Stanton, Iowa passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at the Stanton Care Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Alice Marie Thompson was born November 27, 1920 in Pilot Grove Township of Montgomery County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Elmer and Alice Eva (Plowman) Thompson. She was raised on the family farm in Pilot Grove Township. Marie attended school in Pilot Grove Township and graduated from Elliott High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Floyd Dale Barr on February 29, 1940 in Boone, Iowa. Marie and Floyd lived most of their lives on the farm they bought in 1946 located in Douglas Township one mile north of Grant, Iowa. She was a member of the Grant United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Floyd, her son, Tommy, son-in-law, Charles Casteel, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Survivors include two daughters: Shirley Casteel of San Antonio, TX and Barbara Anderson and husband David of Sheboygan, WI; two sons: Jimmy Barr and wife Deborah of Grant, IA and Randy Barr of Stanton, IA; daughter-in-law: Marilyn Barr Bradley of Warsaw, VA; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Monday, March 12, 2012 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. There will be a private interment service at the Grant, Iowa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel of Red Oak, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
