Birthplace: Atlantic, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Mildred Frances "Millie" Wheeler, age 94, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at her home. Millie was born November 18, 1922 in Atlantic, Iowa the daughter of Rhinehart "Barney" and Julia Ann (McConnelee) Kuhl. She was raised in Atlantic and after graduation was an operator for Bell Telephone Company until her marriage to Charles Wheeler on July 1, 1943 in Atlantic. She was a "navy wife" for three years living in various places on the East coast until Charles was discharged from the Navy in 1946. Their first child, Carol was born while in Newport News, Virginia. They returned to Atlantic for a brief period before moving to Denison, Iowa where they owned a cab service. They moved to Red Oak, Iowa in 1948 where they operated Stardom Roller Rink. Their daughter, Julie, was born in Red Oak. Millie was happy in her role of homemaker, enjoying her family and later her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She was involved in the Girl Scout program and was a leader for several years. Millie's daughter, Julie, was killed in an automobile accident in 1968, one month after graduation from Red Oak High School. In 1969, Millie started a new career as secretary for Davis Taylor Insurance retiring in 1992. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband of 60 years: Charles Wheeler in 2003; daughter: Julie Wheeler in 1968; brother: Lawrence Kuhl; sisters: Caroline Cushing and husband Oliver and Evelyn Boysen and husband Arthur; and nieces: Linda Boysen Montgomery and Pat Cushing Daniels. Survivors include her daughter: Carol Allensworth and husband Doug of Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren: Tami Williams and husband Randy of Ozark, MO; Brenda Vrba and David Bailey of Red Oak, IA; and Scott Allensworth and wife Gayle of Red Oak, IA; great grandchildren: Amanda Nightingale and husband Kyle; Ashley Schrader and husband Bradford; Jordan Vrba, Grant Vrba; Tanner Allensworth and fiancé Brianna; Tatum Allensworth, Mary Kate Bailey; and Wyatt Bailey; great great grandchildren: Kade and Reese Nightingale and Lane and Clarke Bailey; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, July 10, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Millie's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
