Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Omaha, Nebraska James Ralph Franklin, age 83, passed away, Jan. 18, 2007 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. James "Jim" Franklin was born on Nov. 14, 1923 in Red Oak, IA, the only son of Ralph L. and Ivy (Coan) Franklin. After completing the 12th grade at Red Oak High School, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force during WWII. He married Phyllis Deane Peterson on February 9, 1946 in Sabetha, Kansas. James worked for General Foods Corporation for over 35 years. Following his retirement in 1990, he liked playing golf and wintering in Arizona. Recently he resided at Brookestone Retirement Village, where he found warm friendships and the pleasure of speeding around their lake on his "Scooter." His family and friends will miss him greatly. His parents; his wife Phyllis, and son, David Ray Franklin, preceded James in death. He is survived by his son, Steven and wife Paulette of Omaha, NE; daughters: Julie Pirner and husband Steve of Goodyear, AZ; Kendra Karbowski and husband Chuck of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Pvt. Zachery Franklin stationed in Seoul, Korea; David Franklin of Lawrence, KS; Kevin and Aaron Perdew of Sioux Falls, SD; Megan Karbowski of Rapid City, SD and Amanda Karbowski of Grand Forks, SD; cousin: Martha Franklin of Creston, IA; sisters-in-law: Jean Kerr-Griswold, IA; Mary Helen Peterson-Elliott, IA; and Marilyn Lemke (Jerry)-Des Moines, IA; brother-in-law: Kenneth Peterson of Elliott, IA; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial fund is being established to honor the nursing profession. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel, Red Oak, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
