Birthplace: Red Oak, Iowa Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa James Frederick "Fred" Wendt, age 57, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Fred was born August 5, 1954 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of Wilbur Marvin and Laura Lorraine (White) Wendt. He graduated with the Griswold High School class of 1972. Fred started working at Hunts Super Value and Ellis McCunn Construction until 1978 when he went to work at Eveready Battery Company. He worked there until 1988 when he went to work for Oakview Construction. Fred was the Equipment Manager for many years. He was united in marriage to Cindy Coulter on November 1, 1975 in Red Oak, Iowa. Red Oak has been their home all of their lives. Fred served on the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, carpentry work, playing slow pitch softball, and was an avid sports fan especially the Kansas City Chiefs. Fred also enjoyed grilling on the barbecue and was known for his world famous Chili. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother: Marvin Wendt; father and mother-in-law: Doc and Grace Coulter; brother-in-law: John "Mike" Coulter; and sister-in-law: Deb Ervin. Survivors include his wife: Cindy Wendt of Red Oak, IA; son: Aaron Wendt and wife Heidi of Red Oak, IA; daughter: Lindsey Maupin and husband Eric of Skidmore, MO; grandchildren: Madison, Kamryn, and Tori Wendt of Red Oak, IA and Dalton, Colton, and Cambree Maupin of Skidmore, MO; sisters: Phyllis Reynolds of Red Oak, IA and Beverly Cleland and husband Steve of Red Oak, IA; brother: Larry Wendt and wife Cindy of Warsaw, MO; sister-in-law: Melody Bourn and husband Jim of Red Oak, IA; brother-in-law: Gary Ervin of Maryville, MO; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends including his Oakview Construction family. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, June 25, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 4-6 PM Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Fred's name. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
