Birthplace: Wynot, NE Resided In: Red Oak, Iowa Bernard C. Bruning, age 94, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. Bernard Cletus Bruning was born May 12, 1921 on the family farm near Wynot, Nebraska, the son of Herman and Caroline (Kritenbrink) Bruning. That same year the family moved to a farm west of Omaha, Nebraska. He attended elementary school at District 57 in Douglas County. After graduating the 8th grade he began farming with his father. Bernard was united in marriage to Cecilia Hamata on April 14, 1945 in Omaha, Nebraska. They made their home on a dairy farm at 120th and Dodge Street, Omaha, Nebraska until the spring of 1963 when they moved the family dairy operation to their present location north of Stanton, Iowa. Bernard loved his Holstein cows and farming, but even more, he loved spending time with his family and telling stories to his grandchildren. He was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Bernard was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers and two sisters and their spouses: Ralph Bruning and wife Frances, Joseph Bruning and wife Fern, Leo Bruning and wife Mildred, Bernadette Platt and husband Frank, and Charlotte Frances Geer and husband Arthur; and son-in-law Randall Larson. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Cecilia Marie Bruning of Red Oak, Iowa; children: Daniel Bruning and wife Diane of Red Oak, Iowa; Patricia Larson Menendez of Lee's Summit, Missouri; Catherine Jones and her husband Richard of Saint Cloud, Florida; Gary Bruning and his wife Linda of Villisca, Iowa; Steven Bruning and his wife Sheryl of Stanton, Iowa; Kenneth Bruning and his wife Carleen of Stanton, Iowa; and David Bruning and his wife Elitha of Red Oak, Iowa; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends. Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1510 Highland Ave., Red Oak, Iowa with interment at Evergreen Cemetery. A prayer service will be held 6:00 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with visitation with the family to follow until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Red Oak, Iowa; Stanton Volunteer Fire Department, Stanton, Iowa; or a charity of the donor's choice. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel, of Red Oak, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
