Virginia F. Sandell, age 91, of Red Oak, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Virginia F. Sandell was born October 12, 1918 in Red Oak, Iowa the daughter of Simon and Frieda Swanson. She was raised in Wales where she graduated high school. Virginia was united in marriage to Arnold Sandell on June 16, 1940 in Red Oak, Iowa. They lived in Minnesota and California before moving back to Red Oak in 1959. Over the years Virginia worked as a housekeeper and many years as a cook for the Red Oak Community Schools. She was a long time member of the First Covenant Church where she was active in church circle and the choir for many years. Virginia was a wonderful cook and seamstress. She enjoyed gardening and collecting dolls.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Arnold on April 25, 2001; her sisters: Helen Anderson and her husband Ernest and Grace Johnson and her husband Erick; and brother-in-law: Harold Sandell. Survivors include her children: Tom Sandell and wife Joanne of Winter Haven, Florida; Mark Sandell and wife Pam of Red Oak, Iowa; Julie Flanagan and husband Joe of Red Oak, Iowa; and Vickie Murphy and husband Rev. Mick of Evansville, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Willard Sandell and wife Elinore of Spring Valley, California; sister-in-law: Mildred Sandell of Mankato, Minnesota; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday, March 4, 2010 at the First Covenant Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials suggested to the First Covenant Church.
