Doris Alta Helm, age 90, of Elliott, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Doris was born December 1, 1930 in Gray, Iowa the daughter of Frank H. “Pat” and Elma Maude (Barratt) Murphy. She was raised in Gray, Iowa and the family moved to Elliott, Iowa, where Doris graduated in the class of 1948. She was united in marriage to Elmer Helm on February 19, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa. They lived on a farm west of Elliott, Iowa before moving into Elliott where they have lived for many years. Over the years, Doris worked as a Fuller Brush salesperson, cooked at the Senior Center, helped with elections, and was bookkeeper for Helm Home Center. She was a longtime member of the Elliott United Methodist Church where she served on many committees and was a member of the Circle of Friends. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, writing poetry, and telling a good joke.

Preceding her in death were her 2 infant sons: Thomas and Michael; parents; brother: Russell Murphy; sisters: Mae Powell and Betty Howell; and sons-in-law: Forrest Mahan and Greg Ebert. Survivors include her husband: Elmer Helm of Elliott, IA; daughters: Sue Mahan and husband John of Bellevue, NE; Betty Sellers and husband Jeff of Gretna, NE; Barb Mahan of Goodyear, AZ; and Linda Venditte and husband Mike of Maumelle, AR; grandchildren: Berry Mahan and wife Sara of Bellevue, NE; Kelly Williams and husband Braden of Bellevue, NE; Andy Mahan and wife Amber of Papillion, NE; Daniel Mahan and wife Sarah of Bellevue, NE; Jennifer Sellers of Gretna, NE; Jason Sellers of Lincoln, NE; Nicki Tudor of Goodyear, AZ; Tom Mahan of Athens, TN; Jeffrey Ebert and wife Heather of Eau Claire, WI; and Erika Ebert of Lee’s Summit, MO; many great grandchildren; many great great grandchildren; brothers-in-law: LeRoy Helm of Red Oak, IA; Ed Helm and wife Jane of Red Oak, IA; Sam Helm of Red Oak, IA and Mac Bundgaard of Huntley, IL; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

The Helm family would like to thank all of their neighbors, friends, and family for their prayers and support during this difficult time. Thank you to all of the hospital doctors, nurses and staff who provided such wonderful care for Doris. And a special thank you to Pastor Terry and Gladys McClain for all the care and uplifting you provided for the family. It truly is appreciated.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, February 2, 2021 at the Elliott United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the funeral at the church. There will be open viewing from Noon until 7 PM on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Memorials are suggested to the Shenandoah Dialysis Unit.
