Katherine Jean Stoneking, age 81, of Elliott, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. Jean was born May 3, 1934 in Chillicothe, Missouri the daughter of Dean and Dorothy (Slattery) Murren. She was raised in Red Oak and Elliott graduating from Elliott High School in 1952. She received her RN Degree from Mercy Hospital Nurses Training in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1956. Jean was united in marriage to Ralph Stoneking on August 18, 1956 in Red Oak, Iowa. Jean lived most of her life in Elliott, Iowa before moving to Red Oak in 2012. Recently she has been a resident of the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. Jean was a member of Our Lady Of Grace Catholic Church, the JUG Club, former Elliott Public Library Board member, and a former Griswold Country Club member where she enjoyed golfing. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, collecting dolls, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Ralph on May 25, 1994; son: Kirk Stoneking; and daughter-in-law: Bobbi Stoneking. Survivors include her daughters: Joy Koenig and husband Dale of Pleasantville, IA and Amy Stoneking of Carroll, IA; sons: Mark Stoneking of Elliott, IA; Kent Stoneking of Missouri Valley, IA; Brian Stoneking and wife Cindy of Omaha, NE; and Roger Stoneking and wife Tammie of Grant, IA; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brother: John Murren and Jane of Red Oak, IA; sister: Myra Beth Wickham of Custer, SD; sisters-in-law: Joyce Hartchen of Des Moines, IA and Jeanne Partlow of California; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Griswold, Iowa. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Elliott, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 PM Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or the Elliott First Responders.
